The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Fausto Sarracino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Benedicto Tolino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cristobal Txomin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Denis Jerrold having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristobal Txomin in the 11th minute of play forced Salto FC's goalkeeper Denis Jerrold to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benedicto Tolino made an important save on a dangerous shot by Placido Lico in the 13th minute. In the 15th minute the ball was on its way in behind Salto FC's goalkeeper Denis Jerrold, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Denis Jerrold took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Haroldo Celipe, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Denis Jerrold made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Haroldo Celipe in the 19th minute of play. Fausto Sarracino hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. When Haroldo Celipe fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Perchel's protests and gave Haroldo Celipe a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Perchel's Haroldo Celipe got a free kick in the 21st minute. Cristobal Txomin struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Denis Jerrold didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Perchel. After 31 minutes, Armando Cedro mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Perchel and the Salto FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ceferino Botello's late challenge caught a Salto FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ceferino Botello helped the player get up and apologised. After 34 played minutes Perchel got a freekick which was hit by Ceferino Botello. Patricio Marz, 35 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Salto FC's zone, Haroldo Celipe stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Denis Jerrold came out of the goal and Haroldo Celipe tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Salvador Colon stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Ceferino Botello had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Benedicto Tolino made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Salvador Colon in the 63rd minute of play. 65 minutes into the match, Placido Lico notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Perchel's Benedicto Tolino. Benedicto Tolino was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Placido Lico fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benedicto Tolino having to interfere. Denis Jerrold made a fantastic save in the 74th minute, when Haroldo Celipe sent off a good shot on target. The audience was convinced that Salvador Colon's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benedicto Tolino was relentless in the 77th minute of the game. After 77 minutes, Salvador Colon made it 2-0 with a short kick to the right side. Perchel's Benedicto Tolino tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Denis Jerrold made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristobal Txomin in the 83rd minute of play. Haroldo Celipe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Denis Jerrold having to interfere. Haroldo Celipe succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 2-2 in the 98th playminute.
