Saverio Giro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Salvador Estavan having to interfere. In the 8th minute, Saverio Giro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Cruz Azul AFC's Omar Lehior in the 11th minute got a chance for a shot 11th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Hormiguero's goalie prevented a goal. After a defensive mix-up in Hormiguero's zone, Omar Lehior stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Salvador Estavan came out of the goal and Omar Lehior tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Saverio Giro struck a weak shot in the 13th minute. Salvador Estavan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cruz Azul AFC. Saverio Giro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Salvador Estavan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Cruz Azul AFC's Pastor Osoro got a free kick in the 36th minute. Jaime Lore kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice moves Evelio Quintyn could shoot a difficult shot in the 42nd minute, which Virgilio Baraquiel however easily saved by the left post. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Virgilio Baraquiel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 66 minutes into the match, Saverio Giro notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Hormiguero's Salvador Estavan. Salvador Estavan was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Pastor Osoro was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 80 minutes had been played. When Matias Tulio fell near the penalty area in the 88th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Hormiguero's protests and gave Matias Tulio a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Hormiguero getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Matias Tulio hit a great ball. Virgilio Baraquiel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hernan Pere in the 93rd minute of play. After having played for 95 minutes, Evelio Quintyn managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hormiguero's supporters crossed their fingers, but Evelio Quintyn was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cruz Azul AFC's Virgilio Baraquiel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hernan Pere in the 97th minute of play. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
