When Rene Calvet fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored REA AZUL F.C's protests and gave Rene Calvet a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of América MX booed when REA AZUL F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rene Calvet didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lino Rio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Alvaro Mikelats tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The wind increased when Samuel Muc made the kick off in the second half. América MX's Artemio Osasun played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mario Lidon in the 52nd minute of play. In the 55th minute Lino Rio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alvaro Mikelats saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, REA AZUL F.C's Mario Lidon got a free kick in the 57th minute. In the 59th minute, Robustiano Maju hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Astor Hever managed to get in a good position for a shot. REA AZUL F.C's supporters rose to their feet, but Astor Hever was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Artemio Osasun breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Lino Rio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alvaro Mikelats having to interfere. In the 74th match minute, América MX was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Albino Llope to maneuver through the defense. In the 76th minute the ball was on its way in behind América MX's goalkeeper Artemio Osasun, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 77 minutes had been played when some careless play by América MX's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Astor Hever was slow to take the kick. During this time REA AZUL F.C's players had a chance to rest. Jeronimo Gaueko fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alvaro Mikelats having to interfere. Amancio Afonso blasted a shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Alvaro Mikelats having to make a save. After a rather tough play, REA AZUL F.C's Esteban Udalaitz got a free kick in the 88th minute. Albino Llope received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Alvaro Mikelats tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the final whistle sounded América MX left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than REA AZUL F.C.
