In the 21st minute, Justino Macerio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Fabian Elia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cornelio Vincent in the 24th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 27th minute, Cornelio Vincent managed to get in a good position for a shot. Avellaneda's supporters rose to their feet, but Cornelio Vincent was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fabian Elia breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 33 minutes into the game, Gaudencio Fiz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. chivas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Avellaneda the free kick. In a very dangerous position, a player in chivas fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 33rd minute. Penalty! After a rather tough play, chivas's Albino Lano got a free kick in the 75th minute. Diego Lano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Justino Reynardo having to interfere. chivas's Fabian Elia proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save chivas from getting a goal against them. After 96 minutes, Jorge Salvidor mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Avellaneda and the chivas players grew even worse after the yellow card.
