After 10 played minutes Leones Negros got a freekick which was hit by Lorenzo Sagrario. Dalmacio Burni recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 16th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a little luck, Animán's Basilio Bernal got control of the ball when Cirilo Matei tried to sneak it across the goal line. Filomeno Procopio might have been able to make a better finish in the 23rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Isai Murillo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Filomeno Procopio ran back to his position shaking his head. 23 minutes into the match, Animán's Dalmacio Burni sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Isai Murillo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eugenio Ekhi got free with Basilio Bernal in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Leones Negros booed when Animán was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eloy Huly didn't get a good kick on the ball. Leones Negros's Benigno Santikurtz suffered a concussion after 35 minutes and had to leave the field. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 52nd minute, Eugenio Ekhi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Animán's Filomeno Procopio got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hernan Egoitz hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Isai Murillo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dalmacio Burni in the 75th minute of the match. In the 76th minute, Cipriano Pasqual hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Eugenio Ekhi struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Basilio Bernal didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Leones Negros. When Eugenio Ekhi came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Leones Negros fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eugenio Ekhi couldn't finish the play. Filomeno Procopio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Isai Murillo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Leones Negros's zone, Dalmacio Burni stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Isai Murillo came out of the goal and Dalmacio Burni tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Lorenzo Sagrario had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
