Clemente Guillelmo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Varela FC. Clemente Guillelmo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Samuel Matai in the 22nd minute. After 23 minutes, Ignacio Diegotxe mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Varela FC and the Cienaguita AFC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Cienaguita AFC booed when Varela FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ignacio Diegotxe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Godfredo Bautista took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ariel Castulo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Severiano Kepa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Godfredo Bautista tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Varela FC's Ignacio Diegotxe got his second yellow card of the match in the 26th minute. The referee ordered Ignacio Diegotxe off the ground. After 27 played minutes Varela FC got a freekick which was hit by Ignacio Diegotxe. Varela FC's Gavino Montae got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

If Angelo Feliu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. Varela FC's Godfredo Bautista proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 69th minute of the match, managed to save Varela FC from getting a goal against them. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Cienaguita AFC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
