Abel Merino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alan Saenz having to interfere. Alan Saenz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Abel Merino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 12 minutes into the game, Tuto Oreamuno was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Golfito's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ciudad Quesada the free kick. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Abel Merino managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ciudad Quesada's supporters rose to their feet, but Abel Merino was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alan Saenz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Ciudad Quesada booed when Golfito was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tuto Oreamuno didn't get a good kick on the ball. Diego Loaiza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Romulo Jara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Jose Sandi fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ciudad Quesada's protests and gave Jose Sandi a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Ciudad Quesada getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. In the 25th minute, Diego Loaiza got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Gonzalo Masis came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Golfito fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gonzalo Masis couldn't finish the play. If Diego Loaiza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. One of Ciudad Quesada:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Golfito:s goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
Gonzalo Masis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Diego Loaiza in the 57th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Romulo Jara saved Ciudad Quesada from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Golfito's zone, Uriel Parra stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alan Saenz came out of the goal and Uriel Parra tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Ciudad Quesada booed when Golfito was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manuel Acuña didn't get a good kick on the ball. Golfito's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tuto Oreamuno was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Golfito's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
