Lorenzo Espino blasted a shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gabriel Escobar having to make a save. Gabriel Escobar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lorenzo Espino in the 22nd minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Francesco Urane during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Francesco Urane hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Chiriqui's Antonio Trejos got a free kick in the 26th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Nuevo San Juan F.C.'s zone, Lorenzo Espino stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gabriel Escobar came out of the goal and Lorenzo Espino tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nuevo San Juan F.C.'s Gabriel Escobar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Enrique Palma in the 43rd minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luis Arias during the 46th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Chiriqui's Luis Arias got a free kick in the 46th minute. Nuevo San Juan F.C.'s Leonidas Bermudez got a good chance for a goal in the 48th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

With an all-out effort, Chiriqui's Gabriel Escobar threw himself towards the right post 68 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Lorenzo Espino, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 71st minute, Leonidas Bermudez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ulpiano Toledano's late challenge caught a Chiriqui's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ulpiano Toledano helped the player get up and apologised. In the 73rd match minute, Nuevo San Juan F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ulpiano Toledano to maneuver through the defense. Ramón Perez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pablo Perez in the 80th minute of play. If Enrique Palma had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Chiriqui booed when Nuevo San Juan F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Enrique Palma fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gabriel Escobar having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Nuevo San Juan F.C.'s zone, Lorenzo Espino stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gabriel Escobar came out of the goal and Lorenzo Espino tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
