Zavier Gajardo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Norberto Ahumada could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 13th minute of the match, but Zarando Ansures made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Yaniusky Aceves in the 16th minute of play forced Otavalo's goalkeeper López Aguirol to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Norberto Ahumada's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Zarando Ansures read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. A collision led to Otavalo getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Dominguez Villegas hit a great ball. 29 minutes into the match, Otavalo's Norberto Ahumada sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Zarando Ansures narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Yaniusky Aceves's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but López Aguirol read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 37th minute of play. Ibarra Ballesteros might have been able to make a better finish in the 39th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over López Aguirol. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ibarra Ballesteros ran back to his position shaking his head. Yaniusky Aceves received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. López Aguirol tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Otavalo's López Aguirol played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Yaniusky Aceves in the 43rd minute of play. López Aguirol made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zavier Gajardo in the 47th minute of play. The Otavalo players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Sosaya were winning 0-1.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ibarra Ballesteros to make the kick off. Ibarra Ballesteros's late challenge caught a Otavalo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
