Corozo Carro was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 11th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Vilson Gaztañondo. Celso Leonor recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ricardo Dosal got free with Corozo Carro in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ricardo Dosal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Corozo Carro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Corozo Carro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Camilo Rujido, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Camilo Rujido fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Corozo Carro having to interfere. Tumbaco's Ricardo Dosal got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ricardo Dosal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 31 minutes into the match, Celso Leonor had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Yoel Anguciana. Tumbaco's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Celso Leonor was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Camilo Rujido was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute, Camilo Rujido had to leave the field with a concussion. After 53 minutes, Manolo Estebanez mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the UD Hijahual and the Tumbaco players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Tumbaco booed when UD Hijahual was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manolo Estebanez didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ricardo Dosal in the 56th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Corozo Carro saved UD Hijahual from getting behind. Corozo Carro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ricardo Dosal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 61 minutes into the match, UD Hijahual's goal looked a bit too open when Ricardo Dosal came free, but Corozo Carro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 65th minute, Cumbicus Cagigas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 97 played minutes Tumbaco got a freekick which was hit by Vidal Sorondo. UD Hijahual's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Cagua Bardon in the 101st minute. The corner led UD Hijahual's Cagua Bardon to fire away a dangerous shot which Yoel Anguciana despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched UD Hijahual eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
