Holanda's Yoelvis Elola played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jorge Balza in the 27th minute of play. After some careless play in the Rocafuerte defense, Ataulfo Deza kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Xuoco Mazo. The Rocafuerte fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Xuoco Mazo should have stopped the shot. Yoelvis Elola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorge Balza in the 32nd minute of play. When Edgar Hierro came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Rocafuerte fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edgar Hierro couldn't finish the play. 2-1 became the score in the 37th minute when Jorge Balza elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. When Garrido Basozabal got free in front of the goal in the 43rd minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Xuoco Mazo was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Xuoco Mazo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ataulfo Deza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.

The wind increased when Garrido Basozabal made the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Rocafuerte's Ricart Espiga got a free kick in the 52nd minute. In the 54th minute Garrido Basozabal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Xuoco Mazo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Garrido Basozabal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 63 minutes, Garrido Basozabal managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Holanda's supporters crossed their fingers, but Garrido Basozabal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Yoelvis Elola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edgar Hierro in the 68th minute of play. In the 69th minute, Martin Vega hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Yoelvis Elola took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jorge Balza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 76 minutes into the match, Holanda's goal looked a bit too open when Jorge Balza came free, but Yoelvis Elola reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Garrido Basozabal in the 79th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Xuoco Mazo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 82nd minute Jorge Balza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Yoelvis Elola saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Jorge Balza came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the Rocafuerte fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jorge Balza couldn't finish the play. Holanda's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
