Edwin Alguerdo charged in rather forcefully in the 12th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Telmo Loyola showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Xzaver Usabiaga, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Club Sport Emelec's supporters rose to their feet, but Jeremias Elosua was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Xizavier Cerdan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Club Sport Emelec had won after a very even match.
