In the 11th minute, pocahontas's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Zuñiga Viñales fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. After having played for 16 minutes, Juan-Carlos Bonifaz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. AEK Liga de Quito's supporters crossed their fingers, but Juan-Carlos Bonifaz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Zuñiga Viñales fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yaniusky Guerrero having to interfere. Andres Villaciergo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Justavino Madariaga tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Zuñiga Viñales came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the AEK Liga de Quito fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zuñiga Viñales couldn't finish the play. Justavino Madariaga made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ramirez Dieguez in the 41st minute of play. In the 45th minute, Ramirez Dieguez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Justavino Madariaga didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ramirez Dieguez went, in the 47th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zuñiga Viñales to make the kick off. Ramirez Dieguez's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Justavino Madariaga read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Andres Villaciergo managed to get in a good position for a shot. pocahontas's supporters rose to their feet, but Andres Villaciergo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
