The crowd rose to their feet as Matimpi FC's Rogelio Romeo slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Angel Rieta. That made the score 1-0 after 13 minutes of play. 20 minutes into the game, Rolando Casasola was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Riobamba FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Matimpi FC the free kick. The supporters of Matimpi FC booed when Riobamba FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rolando Casasola didn't get a good kick on the ball. Matimpi FC's Aguinaga Villaescusa shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 21st minute of play. The shot was stopped by Angel Rieta but with some difficulty. 24 minutes into the game, Batista Tordesillas recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Angel Rieta. Batista Tordesillas showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. If Virila Varon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Juan-Carlos Sotillo hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. In the 40th match minute, Matimpi FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Batista Tordesillas to maneuver through the defense. In the 46th minute Riobamba FC were awarded a corner. Pio Farell went to the cornerflag to take it. It was a well-played corner which Mellington Carrandi managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Virila Varon was the one to do the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Virila Varon managed to get in a good position for a shot. Riobamba FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Virila Varon was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Corozo Montel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jose-Antonio Tristan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 59 played minutes, Riobamba FC's Pio Farell shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Corozo Montel came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Riobamba FC reached it. 61 minutes into the match, Virila Varon dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Corozo Montel, 2-1. In the 65th minute, Aires Suazo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Angel Rieta was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. In the 78th minute, Batista Tordesillas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With 79 minutes on the clock, Ramos Virto commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 79th minute, one of Matimpi FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Matimpi FC. Corozo Montel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Virila Varon in the 84th minute of the match. Aires Suazo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 91st match minute, Riobamba FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Diego Porrata to maneuver through the defense. When Jose-Antonio Tristan came up free with the goalie in the 96th minute, the Riobamba FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jose-Antonio Tristan couldn't finish the play. Juan Ozana hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match.
