Flavio Hordoñez's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Freddy Valdivielso read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Valencia Rolan managed to get in a good position for a shot. CD Quito's supporters rose to their feet, but Valencia Rolan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Angel Gox breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Flavio Hordoñez was the one to do the kick off. After 52 minutes, Nestor Balderrama mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the CD Quito and the UD Artilleria players grew even worse after the yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in CD Quito fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 51st minute. Penalty! An unexpectedly hard shot by Valery Llanos in the 59th minute of play forced UD Artilleria's goalkeeper Angel Gox to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eduardo Bozo kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. In the 68th minute the ball was on its way in behind CD Quito's goalkeeper Freddy Valdivielso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Freddy Valdivielso made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched UD Artilleria eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
