The referee ignored Vilcabamba SC's protests and gave Xzaver Lampez a yellow card for diving instead. After 4 played minutes Vilcabamba SC got a freekick which was hit by Xzaver Lampez. In the 6th match minute, Cuhembi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Criban Duque to maneuver through the defense. Patricio Cortun sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Vilcabamba SC booed when Cuhembi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nacho Contreras didn't get a good kick on the ball. 17 minutes into the game, Roger Valbuena was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Vilcabamba SC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cuhembi the free kick. Roger Valbuena kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. In the 19th minute of the match Criban Duque shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Richard Liendo showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Adolfo Valls came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the Vilcabamba SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adolfo Valls couldn't finish the play. If Patricio Cortun had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Enrique Reiriz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Richard Liendo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cruz Mocellar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ximenez Hevia, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 42 minutes in the game, Patricio Cortun dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. After 44 minutes, Edmundo Hornos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cuhembi and the Vilcabamba SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Cuhembi getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Edmundo Hornos hit a great ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Enrique Reiriz to strike the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Adolfo Valls's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cruz Mocellar was relentless in the 52nd minute of the game. In the 53rd minute, Enrique Reiriz left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Cuhembi fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. If Ramos Mahabe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Cuhembi fans cheered their team off the field, for while Vilcabamba SC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
