Loja SC's Zumar Portera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Mesonero in the 12th minute of play. 14 minutes into the match, CD Bomboiza's goalkeeper Jairo Moya had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Uhin Masses. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Salomon Amieva's late challenge caught a Loja SC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
