The referee ignored UD Sucre's protests and gave Leonardo Guardiola a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to UD Sucre getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. Leonardo Guardiola hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Eduardo Montel managed to get in a good position for a shot. UD Guaitacamito's supporters rose to their feet, but Eduardo Montel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Manolo Cantabrana breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, UD Sucre's Manolo Cantabrana got control of the ball when Eduardo Montel tried to sneak it across the goal line. Leonides Arambarri charged in rather forcefully in the 14th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Leonides Arambarri the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 14th minute, Leonides Arambarri hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd rose to their feet as UD Guaitacamito's Leonides Arambarri slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Manolo Cantabrana. That made the score 1-0 after 17 minutes of play. After having played for 22 minutes, Santiago Junquera managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. UD Sucre's supporters crossed their fingers, but Santiago Junquera was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Enrique Piquero might have been able to make a better finish in the 27th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Norberto Lillo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Enrique Piquero ran back to his position shaking his head. Enrique Piquero received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Norberto Lillo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 33rd minute, Santiago Junquera made a precise shot to the right of Norberto Lillo. UD Guaitacamito's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Norberto Lillo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Santiago Junquera, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Eduardo Montel's late challenge caught a UD Sucre's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eduardo Montel helped the player get up and apologised. Eduardo Montel kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. After the first half UD Sucre were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

UD Guaitacamito's Mario Tagle got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 54th minute Enrique Piquero shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Norberto Lillo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Manolo Cantabrana stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Leonides Arambarri's shot from short distance in the 56th minute. In the 62nd minute of the match UD Guaitacamito got a corner. UD Sucre's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Santos Verdenosa ran over to the corner to take the kick. Manolo Cantabrana showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leonides Arambarri in the 64th minute of the match. Eduardo Montel struck a weak shot in the 66th minute. Manolo Cantabrana didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for UD Guaitacamito. The audience was convinced that Leonides Arambarri's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Manolo Cantabrana was relentless in the 67th minute of the game. In the 94th minute, Vitor Aniel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The UD Sucre supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing UD Sucre would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
