Lorenzo Conill received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Lopez Cerda tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lopez Cerda was a little too slow when Ponce Cenal got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 9th minute. The score was now 1-0. Diego Cadanes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 11th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 12th match minute, Veracruz was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Xavon Maceda to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Chipo booed when Veracruz was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Isaias Manzanal didn't get a good kick on the ball. Veracruz's Zeledon Elejalde played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ur Marin in the 20th minute of play. Diego Cadanes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zeledon Elejalde having to interfere. Zeledon Elejalde showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ur Marin in the 25th minute of the match. If Diego Cadanes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 29th minute Ur Marin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zeledon Elejalde saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Ponce Cenal managed to get in a good position for a shot. Veracruz's supporters rose to their feet, but Ponce Cenal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lopez Cerda breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Lorenzo Conill had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lopez Cerda took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ponce Cenal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.

Veracruz's Zeledon Elejalde proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 74th minute of the match, managed to save Veracruz from getting a goal against them. In the 77th minute, Ur Marin got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 85th minute Lorenzo Conill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lopez Cerda saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
