The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Veronica Cabalar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juan-Carlos Chandeiro having to interfere. When Telmo Granero came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the CD Gualaqui fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Telmo Granero couldn't finish the play. Yánez Basel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Xavier Fuica kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. The supporters of UD Olmedo booed when CD Gualaqui was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cumbicus Torquemada didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 30 played minutes, CD Gualaqui's Eduardo Irizar shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Juan-Carlos Chandeiro came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in CD Gualaqui reached it. Santos Fontoya took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lopez Beyzania, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Martin Pontones kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Pancho Capels short, quick shot in the 38thth minute got Santos Fontoya to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Juan-Carlos Chandeiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Telmo Granero, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. After some careless play in the UD Olmedo defense, Telmo Granero kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Juan-Carlos Chandeiro. The UD Olmedo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Juan-Carlos Chandeiro should have stopped the shot.

Telmo Granero's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Juan-Carlos Chandeiro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 55th minute of play. Veronica Cabalar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Juan-Carlos Chandeiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. CD Gualaqui's Santos Fontoya played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pancho Capel in the 61st minute of play. Santos Fontoya made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lopez Beyzania in the 65th minute of play. Telmo Granero fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juan-Carlos Chandeiro having to interfere. Veronica Cabalar charged in rather forcefully in the 70th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Veronica Cabalar the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, CD Gualaqui's Veronica Cabalar got a free kick in the 70th minute. After 73 minutes, Edson Adurza mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the CD Gualaqui and the UD Olmedo players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 74th minute, Edson Adurza hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in UD Olmedo's zone, Telmo Granero stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Juan-Carlos Chandeiro came out of the goal and Telmo Granero tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to UD Olmedo getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Xano Limofer hit a great ball. In the 82nd minute, Yánez Basel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 83 minutes into the match, UD Olmedo's goal looked a bit too open when Telmo Granero came free, but Juan-Carlos Chandeiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 84 minutes, Yánez Basel mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the UD Olmedo and the CD Gualaqui players grew even worse after the yellow card. Juan-Carlos Chandeiro didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 85th minute, which inside left pole to 0-3. After 88 played minutes CD Gualaqui got a freekick which was hit by Xavier Fuica. UD Olmedo's Juan-Carlos Chandeiro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Telmo Granero in the 90th minute of play. After 92 minutes UD Olmedo's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Eduardo Irizar who took care of the corner kick. CD Gualaqui's Eduardo Irizar was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Juan-Carlos Chandeiro in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Veronica Cabalar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juan-Carlos Chandeiro having to interfere. Pancho Capel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 98th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Santos Fontoya having to interfere. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched CD Gualaqui eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
