The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd minute Lixandro Mandojana shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pero Torrez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Angelino Lambaria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Orland Percaz took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 9th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Pero Torrez. Bernay's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Angelino Lambaria received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Pero Torrez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pero Torrez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lixandro Mandojana, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. Lixandro Mandojana fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pero Torrez having to interfere. When Guaicuru's Lixandro Mandojana in the 17th minute got a chance for a shot 17th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Bernay's goalie prevented a goal. Emilio Iruretagoyena kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lixandro Mandojana in the 18th minute of play forced Bernay's goalkeeper Pero Torrez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Lixandro Mandojana came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the Guaicuru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lixandro Mandojana couldn't finish the play. Gerardo Olañeta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Peli Clarabout tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 40th minute, Gerardo Olañeta got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lixandro Mandojana stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 51 minutes, Gerardo Olañeta managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bernay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gerardo Olañeta was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Rufio Zamudio scored 1-0 in the 53rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Peli Clarabout, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Angelino Lambaria fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pero Torrez having to interfere. In the 59th minute, Bernay's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Lixandro Mandojana fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. A collision led to Guaicuru getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Demesio Valero hit a great ball. Rufio Zamudio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Peli Clarabout showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rufio Zamudio, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Lixandro Mandojana kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Pero Torrez. That made the score 1-1 in the 75 minute of play. Lixandro Mandojana received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Pero Torrez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Mincho Riba fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Bernay's protests and gave Mincho Riba a yellow card for diving instead.
