Denis Croft didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for College. Aldo Williams fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Val Lovell having to interfere. Vance Hightower lost his temper 29 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. 29 minutes into the game, one of College:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The referee gave Houston Dynamo a penalty, 31 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Dean Ames, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of College's Val Lovell. 1-0. When DeMarcus Day came up free with the goalie in the 35th minute, the College fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that DeMarcus Day couldn't finish the play. Elias Jensen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Val Lovell tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 39 minutes, Aldo Williams put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Val Lovell. The audience was convinced that Aldo Williams's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Val Lovell was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. Aldo Williams might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Val Lovell. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Aldo Williams ran back to his position shaking his head. Charlie Reyes charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Charlie Reyes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 47th match minute, Houston Dynamo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Charlie Reyes to maneuver through the defense. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

In the 59th match minute, College was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Thomas Gillespie to maneuver through the defense. Val Lovell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Elias Jensen in the 61st minute of play. The supporters of College booed when Houston Dynamo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Donovan Peoples didn't get a good kick on the ball. 67 minutes into the match, College's goal looked a bit too open when Aldo Williams came free, but Val Lovell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Marco McCord during the 68th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Val Lovell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Elias Jensen in the 70th minute of the match. The referee ignored College's protests and gave Federico Stahl a yellow card for diving instead.
