Sean Munoz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Thurman Sutton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 13 minutes into the match, Mazatlán CF's goal looked a bit too open when Antony Roach came free, but Sean Munoz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 16th minute, Stacey Broussard hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Art Peoples could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Maxwell Calhoun made a huge save. Maxwell Calhoun made an important save on a dangerous shot by Art Peoples in the 29th minute. When Antony Roach fell near the penalty area in the 30th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fostoria AFC's protests and gave Antony Roach a yellow card for diving instead. Mazatlán CF's Sean Munoz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thurman Sutton in the 33rd minute of play. 35 minutes into the match, Art Peoples notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Fostoria AFC's Maxwell Calhoun. Maxwell Calhoun was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Fostoria AFC's Maxwell Calhoun proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 41st minute of the match, managed to save Fostoria AFC from getting a goal against them. Maxwell Calhoun made an important save on a dangerous shot by Art Peoples in the 43rd minute. The supporters of Mazatlán CF booed when Fostoria AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Johnnie Starr didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 47 minutes, Thurman Sutton managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fostoria AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Thurman Sutton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Antony Roach's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sean Munoz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 52nd minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Andre Wilkinson during the 52nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The audience was convinced that Diego Munson's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Maxwell Calhoun was relentless in the 61st minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Diego Munson in the 64th minute of play forced Fostoria AFC's goalkeeper Maxwell Calhoun to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Diego Munson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Maxwell Calhoun tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the last second Sean Munoz throw himself and got hold of the ball when Antony Roach in the 73rdth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. In the 84th match minute, Fostoria AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Thurman Sutton to maneuver through the defense.
