Tomas Rainey succeeded in the game's 6th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-1. Wilmer Hayden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Santa Fe's zone, Wilmer Hayden stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ronny Burris came out of the goal and Wilmer Hayden tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 15th minute Wilmer Hayden shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronny Burris saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Orland getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Ernie Rankin hit a great ball. In the 26th minute, Ted Powell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Wes Reed's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Antonio Barnhart read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 32nd minute of play. Antonio Barnhart showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sylvester Paquette, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Wilmer Hayden received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Ronny Burris tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Wilmer Hayden might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ronny Burris. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Wilmer Hayden ran back to his position shaking his head. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Wes Reed stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Santa Fe's Wes Reed got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Wilmer Hayden came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Orland fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wilmer Hayden couldn't finish the play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Duncan Puckett during the 58th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Duncan Puckett hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Wes Reed sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Santa Fe's Ronny Burris proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 99th minute of the match, managed to save Santa Fe from getting a goal against them. When the match was over Orland could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Santa Fe throughout the match.
