Match Report

Mobile Park
Spectators: 34 (Terracing: 26, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0)
The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Sid Sprague took the kick off in the first half of the match. 4 minutes into the game, Texas West's Sid Sprague nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hugo Castaneda made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. 12 minutes into the match, Marquis Spencer had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Hugo Castaneda. Mobile's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Marquis Spencer was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After 14 minutes, Grant Denson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mobile and the Texas West players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Texas West booed when Mobile was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Grant Denson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Texas West's Eli Kirkland proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save Texas West from getting a goal against them. Grant Denson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Hugo Castaneda showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marcos Blount in the 25th minute of the match. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Texas West's goalkeeper Eli Kirkland, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Marcellus Becerra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eli Kirkland having to interfere. Antoine Corona charged in rather forcefully in the 38th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Antoine Corona the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 38th match minute, Texas West was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antoine Corona to maneuver through the defense. If Grant Denson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hugo Castaneda took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marquis Spencer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Mobile players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Texas West were winning 0-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Patrick McHugh stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Marcos Blount hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Eli Kirkland stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Patrick McHugh's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. Eli Kirkland made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patrick McHugh in the 58th minute of play. Texas West's Eli Kirkland played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Grant Denson in the 59th minute of play. 64 minutes into the match, Mobile's goal looked a bit too open when Sid Sprague came free, but Hugo Castaneda reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hugo Castaneda showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sid Sprague in the 65th minute of the match. Antoine Corona kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. Eli Kirkland made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patrick McHugh in the 74th minute of play. Texas West's Marquis Spencer got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Roosevelt Delarosa hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. Byron Blake took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 81st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Eli Kirkland. Texas West's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. A hard shot 88 in the game by Marquis Spencer from a close distance when the talented Hugo Castaneda managed to make a qualified save. Mobile's players were relieved. When Patrick McHugh came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the Mobile fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Patrick McHugh couldn't finish the play. Eli Kirkland showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Grant Denson in the 95th minute of the match. When Sid Sprague fell near the penalty area in the 96th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Texas West's protests and gave Sid Sprague a yellow card for diving instead. After 96 played minutes Texas West got a freekick which was hit by Sid Sprague. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Texas West had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
