Ovidio Birjaio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Enrique Diamond, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 4 minutes into the match, Golden Striker FC's goalkeeper Ovidio Birjaio had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by A.J. Rubin. Tad Stiles showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Brendan Oliver, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 10th minute, Brendan Oliver managed to get in a good position for a shot. Golden Striker FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Brendan Oliver was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tad Stiles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Junior Boston sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Brant Merritt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Ovidio Birjaio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 19th minute of the match Azzurri got a corner. Golden Striker FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tyrone Blanton ran over to the corner to take the kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Jarod Barnhart heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. 23 minutes into the game, Fletcher Moreland was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Golden Striker FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Azzurri the free kick. After 23 played minutes Golden Striker FC got a freekick which was hit by Fletcher Moreland. After a defensive mix-up in Azzurri's zone, Brendan Oliver stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tad Stiles came out of the goal and Brendan Oliver tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Del Rios took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tad Stiles. Tad Stiles dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Tad Stiles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brendan Oliver in the 28th minute of play. In the 32nd minute, Azzurri's Brant Merritt ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ovidio Birjaio. Ovidio Birjaio yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. Junior Boston kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Golden Striker FC's Fletcher Moreland got a free kick in the 36th minute. Darron Manley's late challenge caught a Azzurri's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Darron Manley helped the player get up and apologised. In a very dangerous position, a player in Golden Striker FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 39th minute. Penalty! The goalkeeper, Ovidio Birjaio, was totally fooled by Azzurri's Tyrone Blanton, who 41 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Andrew Gibbons hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. In the 45th minute, Oscar Pelletier got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Brant Merritt to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute Brant Merritt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ovidio Birjaio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Golden Striker FC's Junior Boston got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ovidio Birjaio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brant Merritt in the 61st minute of play. Rashad Andrews hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. A.J. Rubin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Ovidio Birjaio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 69 minutes into the match, Del Rios had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tad Stiles. Azzurri's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Del Rios was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. A.J. Rubin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Golden Striker FC's Fletcher Moreland got a free kick in the 77th minute. After having played for 78 minutes, A.J. Rubin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Azzurri's supporters crossed their fingers, but A.J. Rubin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A.J. Rubin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ovidio Birjaio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from A.J. Rubin, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute.
