The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience was convinced that Chad Whitman's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Alvin Fitzpatrick was relentless in the 6th minute of the game. Elliot Gallegos stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nick Hagen's shot from short distance in the 11th minute. Alvin Fitzpatrick showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lucas Hogan in the 20th minute of the match. Walter Loomis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Alvin Fitzpatrick tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Elliot Gallegos as he didn't even see the shot coming. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nick Hagen made a kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Portland Timbers's zone, Ferdinand Combs stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alvin Fitzpatrick came out of the goal and Ferdinand Combs tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nick Hagen in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Elliot Gallegos prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Allen Cain's late challenge caught a Cochituate's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Allen Cain helped the player get up and apologised. Allen Cain kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. A collision led to Cochituate getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Ferdinand Combs hit a great ball. When Portland Timbers's Nick Hagen in the 68th minute got a chance for a shot 68th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Cochituate's goalie prevented a goal. If Nick Hagen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alvin Fitzpatrick was out of position in the 77 minute of play, and Chad Whitman capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Chad Whitman really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. The supporters of Portland Timbers booed when Cochituate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Walter Loomis didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nick Hagen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Kyle Archer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
