Zamalek FC were awarded a corner in the 7th minute after Santos FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Mugurel Balaeț took the corner. An unexpectedly hard shot by Terence Nicholas in the 9th minute of play forced Zamalek FC's goalkeeper Rhys Dimmock to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the last second Aaron Smallwood throw himself and got hold of the ball when Mugurel Balaeț in the 11thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mugurel Balaeț in the 11th managed to get into a good position. Zamalek FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Terence Nicholas was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Rhys Dimmock showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tyron Velasquez in the 18th minute of the match. Rhys Dimmock took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tyron Velasquez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Reese Otto who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 33rdth minute tested the skills of Aaron Smallwood when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Reese Otto could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Aaron Smallwood made a huge save. After 35 played minutes Santos FC got a freekick which was hit by Titus Kohler. Reese Otto came free with the goalkeeper in the 36th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Aaron Smallwood could save by the left post. After 36 played minutes Reese Otto rounded Santos FC's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-2. Santos FC's Aaron Smallwood proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 39th minute of the match, managed to save Santos FC from getting a goal against them. Aaron Smallwood made an important save on a dangerous shot by Reese Otto in the 42nd minute. Reese Otto could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Aaron Smallwood made a huge save. Terence Nicholas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rhys Dimmock read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play. The coaching staff of Zamalek FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Davis Duff had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 45th minute of the game. One of Zamalek FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Santos FC:s goal. Rhys Dimmock had in the 47thth minute some difficulties stopping Lanny Gilmore's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The corner led Santos FC's Warren Ruiz to fire away a dangerous shot which Rhys Dimmock despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball.

Titus Kohler kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. Rhys Dimmock made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lanny Gilmore in the 58th minute of play. 60 minutes into the match, Zamalek FC's goal looked a bit too open when Lanny Gilmore came free, but Rhys Dimmock reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lanny Gilmore got free with Rhys Dimmock in the 61st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Tyron Velasquez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aaron Smallwood made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mugurel Balaeț in the 64th minute of play. The supporters of Santos FC booed when Zamalek FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fred Kirkpatrick didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Santos FC's zone, Mugurel Balaeț stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aaron Smallwood came out of the goal and Mugurel Balaeț tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Santos FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
