Santos FC's Aaron Smallwood played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gerry Franco in the 35th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lanny Gilmore in the 41st minute of play forced Pueblo FC's goalkeeper Boyd Winkler to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Boyd Winkler prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Tyron Velasquez's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Boyd Winkler was relentless in the 82nd minute of the game. If Lanny Gilmore had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After having played for 92 minutes, Tyron Velasquez managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Santos FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tyron Velasquez was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Boyd Winkler showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Santos FC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
