Farès Sadmi charged in rather forcefully in the 4th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After 7 played minutes Gothenburg got a freekick which was hit by Boughera Merbah. With a little luck, Gothenburg's Mohammad Hamid got control of the ball when Zīn ud-Dīn Merzekane tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Gothenburg getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Boughera Merbah hit a great ball. Zīn ud-Dīn Merzekane fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mohammad Hamid having to interfere. Rachid Harkouk received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Mohammad Hamid tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 24th minute, Mourad Nabil hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Zīn ud-Dīn Merzekane had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rachid Harkouk struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Mohammad Hamid didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Van Buren. In the 30th minute Rachid Harkouk shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mohammad Hamid saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Farès Sadmi came up free with the goalie in the 35th minute, the Gothenburg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Farès Sadmi couldn't finish the play. 37 minutes into the match, Van Buren's goal looked a bit too open when Farès Sadmi came free, but Hamid Karim Belkassem reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ismael Belhagj in the 44th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hamid Karim Belkassem saved Van Buren from getting behind. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Farès Sadmi to make the kick off. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 58 minutes into the match, Van Buren's goalkeeper Hamid Karim Belkassem had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ismael Belhagj. Ismael Belhagj who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 61stth minute tested the skills of Hamid Karim Belkassem when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, Farès Sadmi managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gothenburg's supporters rose to their feet, but Farès Sadmi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hamid Karim Belkassem breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
