But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mohammad Kourichi couldn't finish the play. Fort Payne AFC's Mohammad Kourichi got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Abd al-Asis Bessou fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Abdelmalek Metref having to interfere. Madhi Khabatou's late challenge caught a Fort Payne AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in Fort Payne AFC's zone, Mohamed Adjani stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Abdelaziz Saci came out of the goal and Mohamed Adjani tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Abdelmalek Metref showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mohammad Kourichi in the 37th minute of the match. In a very dangerous position, a player in Fort Payne AFC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 46th minute. Penalty! Hocine Fellahi shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
