The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Truman Hoskins in the 7thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Gerard Thomas, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. In the 10th minute, Charles Irizarry fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Gerard Thomas, passed just outside the right post. Jody Faulkner recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Orval Montoya scored 0-1 in the 34th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Numbers Summers, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Bondiss AFC's Wally Allred got a free kick in the 39th minute. After the first half Whelan were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jody Faulkner to make the kick off. If Charles Irizarry had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 63rd match minute, Whelan was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Geraldo Christian to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Charles Irizarry managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bondiss AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Charles Irizarry was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gerard Thomas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 66thth minute of the game Truman Hoskins who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Whelan's Gerard Thomas was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Gerard Thomas didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Charles Irizarry went, in the 70th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. If Orval Montoya had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Whelan booed when Bondiss AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Odell Corey didn't get a good kick on the ball. Truman Hoskins recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 87th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gerard Thomas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Odell Corey, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Whelan eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
