But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Baldovino Dega couldn't finish the play. When the match clock showed 30 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Leon Elcano sped through Suarez's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Marcelino Lillo. Baladi Manjon was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 33rd minute. Suarez's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Andy Trevino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Baladi Manjon, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Suarez's zone, Leon Elcano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcelino Lillo came out of the goal and Leon Elcano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Baldovino Dega might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcelino Lillo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Baldovino Dega ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 42nd minute, Leon Elcano made a precise shot to the right of Marcelino Lillo. Suarez's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Baldovino Dega was the one to do the kick off.
