Hipolito Tejada's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Daunte Gimenez read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 27th minute of play. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When Roque Cerda was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 51 minutes had been played. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Anacleto Aguinaga couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 62nd minute, Anacleto Aguinaga managed to get in a good position for a shot.
