Pío Popelaire took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Israel Talavera, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 20thth minute of the game Israel Talavera who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Deportivo Mérida's Pío Popelaire was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 24 minutes into the match, Deportivo Mérida's goal looked a bit too open when Israel Talavera came free, but Pío Popelaire reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Pío Popelaire prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Israel Talavera made the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Gustavo Asmussen in the 54th minute of play forced Abanico's goalkeeper Fidelio Pfingsthorn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 56th minute Lander Solabarrieta suffered a knee injury and had to be helped off the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Teodovico Osorio during the 56th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 57 played minutes Abanico got a freekick which was hit by Teodovico Osorio. Abanico's Fidelio Pfingsthorn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Martin Castañeda in the 63rd minute of play. Omar Iribarren fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pío Popelaire having to interfere. After 83 minutes of play, Deportivo Mérida's Carlos Gustavo Asmussen made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fidelio Pfingsthorn was left in no man's land by his defense there! Israel Talavera received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Pío Popelaire came out and tried to block the shot, but Israel Talavera slotted it home off the left post making it 2-2 in the 87th minute.
