Maiquillahue's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Maiquillahue's zone, Romildo Maturana stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nereo Monroy came out of the goal and Romildo Maturana tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Romildo Maturana in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nereo Monroy saved Maiquillahue from getting behind. In the 42nd match minute, Maiquillahue was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Victor Hugo La Motte to maneuver through the defense. In the 44th minute Hernán Ruiz Tagle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nereo Monroy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 46 minutes into the match, Pilmaiquen's Hernán Ruiz Tagle sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nereo Monroy narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Nestor Canavesio the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Pilmaiquen protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Nestor Canavesio had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee gave Maiquillahue a penalty, 62 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Bernardino Lynch, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Pilmaiquen's Josías Agudo. 2-0. After having played for 68 minutes, Carlo Magdahl managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Maiquillahue's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carlo Magdahl was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Domingo Garbiso scored 3-0 in the 69th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Josías Agudo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Hernán Ruiz Tagle came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Pilmaiquen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hernán Ruiz Tagle couldn't finish the play. When Romildo Maturana fell near the penalty area in the 74th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Pilmaiquen's protests and gave Romildo Maturana a yellow card for diving instead.
