The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 5 minutes into the match, Ayarara's goalkeeper Héctor Ibarguen had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Efraín Antipa. Taruguiri's Hernán Heiremans got a good chance for a goal in the 7th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Efraín Antipas short, quick shot in the 13thth minute got Héctor Ibarguen to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Héctor Ibarguen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hernán Heiremans in the 14th minute of play. Ezmundo Patterson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nereo Mouat, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hernán Heiremans sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 34th minute, Bertrán Gaviño hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Taruguiri booed when Ayarara was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lander Garfias didn't get a good kick on the ball. Albin Súnico's late challenge caught a Ayarara's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
