In the 16th minute, Juvenal Novaes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. João Pires was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Ulysses Peres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arlindo Favoretto having to interfere. Arlindo Favoretto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rodriguinho Faria, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Juvenal Novaes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but João Pires made a huge save. A collision led to Itueta getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Durvalino Madureira hit a great ball. Noel Damião took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 28th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for João Pires. Itueta's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line.
