Leopoldo Garretón showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Waldir Alvarenga in the 13th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juan Fantini in the 17th minute of play forced Zacarias AD's goalkeeper Sebastião Lago to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 18 minutes into the game, Waldir Alvarenga was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Zacarias AD's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mariano SS the free kick. Juan Fantini sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jardel Matos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Sebastião Lago tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 30th minute, Waldir Alvarenga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 37th minute, Juan Fantini got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Juan Fantini had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The throw-in from José Maria Rezende in the 41st minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Mariano SS's Ademir da Rocha. Ademir da Rocha could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Sebastião Lago made a huge save. In the 46th match minute, Zacarias AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jarbas Saraiva to maneuver through the defense. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jardel Matos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Zacarias AD's Vladimir Meirelles got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, Mariano SS's Leopoldo Garretón got control of the ball when Luciano Valadares tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of Zacarias AD booed when Mariano SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chiquinho Negri didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vladimir Meirelles sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Zacarias AD's Vladimir Meirelles got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Luciano Valadares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leopoldo Garretón having to interfere. Leopoldo Garretón made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vladimir Meirelles in the 78th minute of play. Chiquinho Negri kicked well hit freekick during the 79th minute of the match. It was a well-played corner which Chiquinho Negri managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Ademir da Rocha struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Sebastião Lago didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mariano SS.
