The referee gave Pimento a penalty, 7 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Gil da Cunha, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Beverini's Celso Rezende. 0-1. Pimento's defense didn't have a chance, in the 16th minute, when Agostinho Alves scored to the left of an out of position Roger Saldanha, making the score, 1-1. Michel Motta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd minute Glauco da Mata shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roger Saldanha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Roger Saldanha made an important save on a dangerous shot by Michel Motta in the 37th minute. Glauco da Mata might have been able to make a better finish in the 39th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Roger Saldanha. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Glauco da Mata ran back to his position shaking his head. After having played for 40 minutes, Michel Motta managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Beverini's supporters crossed their fingers, but Michel Motta was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpected shot in the 44th minute by Glauco da Mata got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dalmo de Sousa was the one to do the kick off. Roger Saldanha showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Raúl Barbosa in the 52nd minute of the match. Álvaro Silveira hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Celso Rezende showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dalmo de Sousa, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. Diamantino Carioca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Diamantino Cariocas short, quick shot in the 60thth minute got Celso Rezende to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. If Glauco da Mata had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 66th minute, Diamantino Carioca left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Pimento fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. Diamantino Carioca could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 72nd minute of the match, but Celso Rezende made a huge save. Roger Saldanha showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Glauco da Mata, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. In the 76th minute Glauco da Mata shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roger Saldanha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 82 minutes into the match, Beverini's goal looked a bit too open when Dalmo de Sousa came free, but Celso Rezende reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Glauco da Mata in the 89th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Roger Saldanha saved Pimento from getting behind. With a little luck, Beverini's Celso Rezende got control of the ball when Percival Saldanha tried to sneak it across the goal line. Beverini's Celso Rezende played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dalmo de Sousa in the 96th minute of play. Pedro Castro hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. Dalmo de Sousa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 98th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Celso Rezende having to interfere. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
