Araruama SS's Kléber das Neves was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 19th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Inácio Coutinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Faustão Mesquita tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Manfredo Severo in the 29th minute of play forced Araruama SS's goalkeeper Faustão Mesquita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Miguel Proença tried to clear up in front of the goal, but didn't succeed and rather the ball rolled into the own goal to the right of a despaired Faustão Mesquita.
