Luiz Netto came out of the goal and Jorge Vidal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 12 minutes into the match, Hílton Prata notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Gopouva's Luiz Netto. Luiz Netto was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Christiano Magalhães in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fiori Cosme saved Sport Clube Salvador from getting behind. Christiano Magalhães fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fiori Cosme having to interfere. After 20 minutes, Christiano Magalhães mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gopouva and the Sport Clube Salvador players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 22nd minute Christiano Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fiori Cosme saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 30th minute, Hílton Prata got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Fiori Cosme made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Christiano Magalhães in the 33rd minute of play. João Augusto Schmidt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 37 minutes, João Augusto Schmidt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gopouva's supporters crossed their fingers, but João Augusto Schmidt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 39 minutes into the match, Hílton Prata had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luiz Netto. Gopouva's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Hílton Prata was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Clóvis Nóbrega during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Carlos Alberto de Souza, 45 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. The Gopouva players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Sport Clube Salvador were winning 0-2.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Christiano Magalhães to make the kick off. Fiori Cosme showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Augusto Schmidt, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. If Christiano Magalhães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Hílton Prata came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the Sport Clube Salvador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hílton Prata couldn't finish the play. Jorge Vidal's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luiz Netto read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 63rd minute of play.
