Emílio Terra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Rafa Peres tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Narciso Hames's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rafa Peres was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Genílson de Salles was the one to do the kick off. If Genílson de Salles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Guga Capixaba managed to get in a good position for a shot. After a defensive mix-up in Maniva's zone, Genílson de Salles stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leonel Novaes came out of the goal and Genílson de Salles tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Genílson de Salles in the 95th minute of play forced Maniva's goalkeeper Leonel Novaes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. For all the effort they put into the match, the Grêmio players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Maniva.
