Hernani Tavares struck a weak shot in the 3rd minute. Vítor Negri didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Geriba EC. In the 7th minute, David Lopes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 8 played minutes, Geriba EC's Sidnei Batista shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Vítor Negri came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Geriba EC reached it. 12 minutes into the match, Geriba EC's goal looked a bit too open when Wilton Bastos came free, but Nilson Miranda reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Geriba EC's Aílton Meirelles got a free kick in the 13th minute. Nilson Miranda took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wilton Bastos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. João Francisco Donatello received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Vítor Negri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 22nd minute, Silvério Messias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 24 minutes into the match, Jano de Godoi notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Geriba EC's Nilson Miranda. Nilson Miranda was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Wilton Bastos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nilson Miranda having to interfere. Nilson Miranda was a little too slow when Wilton Bastos got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 43rd minute. The score was now 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Wilton Bastos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of fernandoaroura booed when Geriba EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Régis Moura didn't get a good kick on the ball. 54 minutes into the match, Geriba EC's goal looked a bit too open when Wilton Bastos came free, but Nilson Miranda reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aílton Meirelles's late challenge caught a fernandoaroura's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Aílton Meirelles helped the player get up and apologised. After 55 played minutes Geriba EC got a freekick which was hit by Aílton Meirelles. Nilson Miranda showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wilton Bastos in the 57th minute of the match. In the 72nd minute, Lenílson Luz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Wilton Bastos in the 73rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nilson Miranda saved Geriba EC from getting behind. In the 75thth minute of the game Wilton Bastos who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Geriba EC's Nilson Miranda was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Nilson Miranda showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jano de Godoi, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Hernani Tavares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vítor Negri having to interfere. Vítor Negri made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hernani Tavares in the 81st minute. After a defensive mix-up in Geriba EC's zone, Silvério Messias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nilson Miranda came out of the goal and Silvério Messias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jano de Godoi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 98th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nilson Miranda having to interfere. Geriba EC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
