If Jefferson Félix had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ramón Castro took the ball and in the 7 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Washington Alves. Washington Alves dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. After a defensive mix-up in Alfenas's zone, Ramón Castro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Washington Alves came out of the goal and Ramón Castro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Alfenas's Washington Alves proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 12th minute of the match, managed to save Alfenas from getting a goal against them. Josué de Azevedo struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Pedro Augusto Luz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Alfenas. A hard shot 21 in the game by Ramón Castro from a close distance when the talented Washington Alves managed to make a qualified save. Alfenas's players were relieved. 24 minutes into the match, Josué de Azevedo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Pedro Augusto Luz. Mamata's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Josué de Azevedo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. With his leg Washington Alves managed to avoid a goal in the 28thth minute, when Mamata's Ramón Castro fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Alfenas's Washington Alves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jefferson Félix in the 37th minute of play. When the match clock showed 42 minutes, the score became 2-2 when Ramón Castro sped through Alfenas's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Washington Alves. Mazinho Rezende who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 45thth minute tested the skills of Washington Alves when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Ramón Castro's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Washington Alves firmly grabbed it by the left post. The first half was very even, with the score at 2-2 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Vágner Valadares made a kick off. Christian de Alcântara charged in rather forcefully in the 56th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Christian de Alcântara the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 59thth minute of the game Ramón Castro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Alfenas's Washington Alves was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 65th play minute Josué de Azevedo came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Pedro Augusto Luz. 2-3. After some careless play in the Alfenas defense, Ramón Castro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Washington Alves. The Alfenas fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Washington Alves should have stopped the shot. Ramón Castro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jefferson Félix's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Washington Alves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play. 86 minutes into the match, Jefferson Félix had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Washington Alves. Alfenas's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jefferson Félix was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-3. Washington Alves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ramón Castro in the 89th minute of the match. After 93 played minutes, Mamata's Dudu Borges shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Washington Alves came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Mamata reached it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ramón Castro in the 96th minute of play forced Alfenas's goalkeeper Washington Alves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mamata's Mazinho Rezende suffered a sore thigh after 96 minutes and couldn't finish the game. In the 97th minute, Carlos Alberto Fonseca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mamata walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
