The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee ignored Nunes F.C.'s protests and gave Luiz Fabiano Reis a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Nunes F.C.'s Luiz Fabiano Reis got a free kick in the 5th minute. After 8 played minutes Catu got a freekick which was hit by Rogério Paraibano. In the 12th match minute, Catu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sílvio Luiz Mendonça to maneuver through the defense. In the 18th match minute, Catu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlos Eduardo de Amaral to maneuver through the defense. After 38 played minutes Nunes F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Gilson Vianna. Tomé Barbosa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Pedro Teixeira in the 39th minute of play. Carlos Eduardo de Amaral fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomé Barbosa having to interfere. When Sílvio Luiz Mendonça came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the Catu fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sílvio Luiz Mendonça couldn't finish the play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. In the 75th minute, Dida Velloso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 78 minutes into the match, Nunes F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Rogério Paraibano came free, but Tomé Barbosa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Nunes F.C.'s zone, José Pedro Teixeira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tomé Barbosa came out of the goal and José Pedro Teixeira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience was convinced that José Pedro Teixeira's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Tomé Barbosa was relentless in the 81st minute of the game. After a rather tough play, Nunes F.C.'s Luiz Fabiano Reis got a free kick in the 88th minute. José Pedro Teixeira's late challenge caught a Nunes F.C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. José Pedro Teixeira helped the player get up and apologised. In the 89th match minute, Catu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by José Pedro Teixeira to maneuver through the defense.
