Natã de Queirós started the match with the kick off. 8 minutes into the match, Santos's goal looked a bit too open when Tião Leme came free, but Dalmo Gerber reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Virtude EC's João Carlos de Barros proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save Virtude EC from getting a goal against them. Dalmo Gerber stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tião Leme's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. The supporters of Virtude EC booed when Santos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Amadeu Proença didn't get a good kick on the ball. Henrique Vale's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dalmo Gerber read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. Amadeu Proença in the 32ndth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of João Carlos de Barros, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. If Tião Leme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 44 minutes, Henrique Vale managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Virtude EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Henrique Vale was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Santos's Dalmo Gerber played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tião Leme in the 46th minute of play. In the 47th match minute, Santos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fausto Cerezo to maneuver through the defense. In the 48th minute, Tião Leme got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Henrique Vale stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Henrique Vale received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Dalmo Gerber tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tião Leme's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Dalmo Gerber firmly grabbed it by the left post. 61 minutes into the game, Fausto Cerezo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Santos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Virtude EC the free kick. In the 62nd minute, Fausto Cerezo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 64 minutes into the game, Tião Leme cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Dalmo Gerber was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. With his leg Dalmo Gerber managed to avoid a goal in the 68thth minute, when Virtude EC's Tião Leme fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Santos's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Henrique Vale 76 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-2. João Carlos de Barros took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Natã de Queirós, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 84th minute, Naldo Cruz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dalmo Gerber showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Henrique Vale, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. João Carlos de Barros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Amadeu Proença in the 92nd minute of the match. Tião Leme recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The Santos fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Virtude EC were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
