Frédson Pernambucano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Tomé Godoi scored 1-1 in the 47th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dênis Carneiro, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomé Godoi stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 66th minute, Valdir Queiroz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomé Godoi in the 70th minute of play forced Mambai AD's goalkeeper Dênis Carneiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Frédson Pernambucano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hernani Vargas's late challenge caught a Mambai AD's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The supporters of Taubate booed when Mambai AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 98 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ciro Machado didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Mambai AD players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
