Frank Freire stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Marco Pontes's shot from short distance in the 39th minute. Armando Gaspar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zeca Pena having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The wind increased when Mauro Galvão made the kick off in the second half. Zeca Pena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Armando Gaspar in the 52nd minute of play. Frank Freire took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mauro Galvão, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dráuzio das Neves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zeca Pena having to interfere. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Fernando Valladares charged in rather forcefully in the 69th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Marco Pontes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frank Freire having to interfere.
