The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Canicura's goalkeeper Claudinho Esteves, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 26th minute, Cipriano Linares got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 32 played minutes, Miraguaia's Sabino Loyola shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Claudinho Esteves came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Miraguaia reached it. Samuca Gaúcho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alexandre Lopez having to interfere. When Samuca Gaúcho came up free with the goalie in the 35th minute, the Canicura fans jumped to their feet. Edmundo Vides hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Cipriano Linares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Claudinho Esteves having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Walmir Neto managed to get in a good position for a shot. Miraguaia's supporters rose to their feet, but Walmir Neto was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Claudinho Esteves breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Walmir Neto to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Cipriano Linares notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Canicura's Claudinho Esteves. Claudinho Esteves was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
